Humble then and humble now.

Jay Harper

In 1951, Jay Harper and his wife Virginia founded Jay’s Moving Company. Their “boardroom” was their kitchen table and they were the only two employees. They had just a few customers and their mission was to do their very best for their customers, every time, at the fairest price they could deliver.

Jay and Virginia founded their new business on the Christian principles of humility, honesty, integrity, generosity of spirit, and love for their community. As the community embraced their new business, the company soon outgrew the Harper’s kitchen. In 1973, they opened their first office in Fountain Square.

In a testament to his commitment to hard work and lifelong service, Jay continued to grow the business and serve the community until he retired at the age of 80. He sold the business to the Conner family, his insurance agents and long-time family friends. Jay passed away in 2008, leaving the legacy of his family business in the hands of another family who also believes in careful stewardship and humble service.

Jay’s Moving Company has now grown to two locations. The headquarters remain in Indianapolis, with a second location in Fort Wayne. Jay’s serves the entire state of Indiana with the same high standards and commitment to honesty, integrity and Christian values that Jay Harper established more than sixty years ago.
